When you first turn on your computer, a small piece of software gets executed to set it up and get it ready for your operating system, be it Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, or whatever. This technology has been around for A LONG time and it was getting harder and harder to use for modern software. A couple of the more pertinent changes will be things like "instant on, " support for larger drives, and a security mechanism that will help protect the operating system on the disk. (if you want a full run down, here is the Wikipedia article)...
So....I thought long and hard about finding an article to post about before the end of the year (we are off next week), but I'm pretty much mentally checked out at this point! :0)
Actually - I'll leave you with this.
